Metro Screen, in partnership with Screen NSW, offers three experienced filmmakers of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders decent, the opportunity to develop their film and storytelling skills through the production of a short work.

Out-There and Deadly is for those who want to make a high quality short film to showcase their storytelling and filmmaking talent. Three projects of up to 10 minutes screen duration will be selected. Drama, documentary, animation, experimental, cross-platform will be considered.

Applicants must be experienced filmmakers, and identify as an Aboriginal Australian or Torres Strait Islander who resides in NSW outside of the Greater Sydney Region.

The applicant must have at least one produced screen credit in their respective roles that has been released, broadcast or screened at a recognised film festival. Applicants with feature or substantial television drama experience are not eligible.

OUT-THERE AND DEADLY PROVIDES
  • A cash budget of $13 000 for production and crew fees.
  • Metro Screen production equipment and postproduction facilities to the value of $2000

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT RESPONSIBILITIES
Successful applicants MUST:
  • Attend three, one day Masterclasses held at Metro Screen in Sydney [travel and accommodation is provided]
  • Produce a finished film of up to 10 minutes by the deliverables date
APPLICATION MATERIALS REQUIRED
  • A completed application form
  • The completed script
  • A one line AND one paragraph AND one page synopsis
  • Director’s Statement [half page max]
  • Producer Statement where relevant [half page max]
  • Bio/CV of applicant [one page max]
  • Short bio of key crew if known [half page max]
  • A DVD containing at least one screened work made by the applicant.
  • Budget - must use template provided
  • Marketing plan [one page max]
  • Name and contact details of two industry referees

ASSESSMENT
Applications are assessed by Metro Screen’s Projects and Productions Manager and a panel of industry representatives.
