Multiplatform blog

Leading up to the launch of our flagship The Multiplatform Screen Producer Scholarship, in April, we will be investigating what is expected of a producer in the current media rich landscape. Today's producers need not only to tell stories, but to find innovative and engaging ways to do so that integrate traditional platforms such as TV and film with online and mobile. The strength of today's producers is their adaptability to match content with platform. It's about creating stories and recreating the ways in which they can be told. Gary Hayes, social media expert believes that we have reached a tipping point. With more user hours spent with games than in the cinema, is gaming now more culturally relevant?

In his article Video: Cinematic Game Renaissance-Game Now Leading Film? Gary raises the point that most films have game-like story arcs and with over 80 feature films in existence based on game titles, the relevance of games and the time users are spending with them is growing.

Whether  in the cinema or gaming, people are seeking to immerse themselves in stories that aid in the escape from reality. The convergence of traditional platforms such as feature film and an emerging storytelling platform such as gaming could be the answer to the ultimate escape for viewers/gamers/consumers.
