BREAKTHROUGH

Breakthrough is for experienced filmmakers who identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Straight Islander Australians*.

One project of up to 20 minute screen duration will be selected. Drama, doco, animation, series pilot, experimental, cross-platform will be considered.

Breakthrough is for sole person applications only however Metro Screen encourages applicants with established Director /Producer and Director/Screenwriter relationships to apply.

*The applicant must have at least one produced screen credit in their respective roles that has been released, broadcast or screened at a recognised film festival. Applicants with feature or substantial television drama experience are not eligible.


Breakthrough is generously supported by Screen Australia.

 

INDIGENOUS BREAKTHROUGH PROVIDES;

  • a cash budget of $22,000 for production and crew fees.
  • Metro Screen production equipment and postproduction facilities to the value of $3,500
  • the consultation services of a professional Script Editor
  • one place in a short course at Metro Screen to the value of $600
  • a joint cast and crew screening with other similarly funded Metro Screen projects within two months of the deliverables date.
  • 12 months free membership with Metro Screen

TIMELINE/SCHEDULE FOR SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS

  • Deadline for applications: 24 Feb [extended]
  • Successful applicants notified: 9th March
  • Production and post: April-Oct.
  • Deliverables date: 19th October

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT RESPONSIBILITIES;

Successful applicants MUST:

  • Attend a pre production meeting at Metro Screen.
  • Produce a finished film of up to 20 minutes within the deliverables date.

  • Completed online application form
  • [one copy of the printed and signed confirmation email you will receive after completing the online application]
  • A completed script [does not need to be at final draft]
  • A one-line AND one paragraph AND one page synopsis
  • Marketing plan [one page max]
  • Director’s Statement [one page max]
  • Producer Statement where relevant [one page max]
  • Bio / CV for director and bios for producer and writer if already attached to the project – clearly list crew role for past credits [one page each]
  • Short bio of other key crew if known [one page max]
  • An example of screened works from both the producer and the director OR a joint project. To be provided as a link to either a Youtube URL or a password protected Vimeo URL.
  • A signed Writers Agreement assigning all rights to the script to be developed and produced to the producer from the screenwriter
